Vengador update

Hey Everyone,

I know many of you have questions regarding some of the events thus far in the series, Believe me I have the answers to all your questions. I am hopefully going to be able to tell more of those stories over the next few months as I am trying to get a couple of pages printed in an Australian magazine. This will allow me to tell some of the stories I wasn’t able to tell in the original series such as what was Eric doing between the court and when he first put the mask of Vengador on.

 

As for future plans of Vengador I finally know where I want to go with Vengador, as some of you know we are starting the first major story arc that I have planned for the series. There will be 3 major acts where I will take Vengador through a number of different journeys. There are a lot of issues I will hitting on and let me tell you the ending will be something no one sees.

Free Comic Book Day wrap up

Well as everyone knows that over the weekend FCBD occured on Saturday, It is always an awesome day and something I look forward to for months. Some of you may know I was at Kinokuniya Sydney cosplaying as the Rocketeer a character I have loved as a kid so it was a lot of fun to be him. There were so many people lined out the front of the store which is something I have never seen before in my life. It was a great thing to see.

I met alot of cool people and picked up some more fans of Vengador, I actually met a fan who wanted a photo with me which was something that made me really happy. In the afternoon I headed to Kings Comics, I couldn’t get in cause the line was all the way down Pitt St. It was such an awesome thing to see and a moment I realised that it is so cool to be a nerd lol

Issue 4 starts now!

That is right everyone issue 4 starts today. I have wanted to tell this story for 2 years now and wanted to start off with it but as with any character and story you need to start somewhere. I spent the first 3 issues setting up the character for this event, this issue kick starts the first major story arc I have planned for Vengador.

This will be one of his toughest challenges thus far, we look closer at his relationships on a personal level while seeing Eric take some big steps in his life with a career and trying to juggle it with his night time adventures. One of the best things with this issue is that we will be introduced to his rival! yes one of Eric’s toughest foes will be revealed really sticking to Vengador.

Severed Series Review

Over the years there have been so many fabulous writers in the horror genre, greats such as Stephen King, H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe just to name a few, but now it is time to add a few more names to that genre. Those names being Scott Tuft and Scott Snyder, two life-long friends who decided to write one of the best horror comics I have ever read….”Severed”.

 

Snyder who has been writing in the comics industry for the last few years has really made a name for himself with his run on Vertigo’s “American Vampire” and DC’s “Batman” and “Swamp Thing”. To be honest I am not much of a fan for horror in general but when I picked this book up I could simply not put it down!
Something that I thought was really cool was the covers for this series. They leap off the shelf immediately telling us that this book means business and will send shivers up your spine.

 

The story opens up to an elderly man receives an envelope that was given to his grandson and frantically demands to know who dropped it off before narrating “I tell people I lost my arm in the War. Even my wife doesn’t know the truth.” It’s a great way introduce the story and flash back to 1916 to wear we find a young Jack Garron as he plays the violin. The story focuses primarily on Jack as he searchs for his birth father, while along the way he teams up with a girl named Sam and eventually become best friends.

 

However things don’t last very well when Jack meets a salesmen who says he can take Jack to his father and help him along the way. The origin of this man is left unknown as he murders and steals the identity of Mr.Fisher.

Now I don’t like to spoil anything in my reviews and in this series I don’t want to give much away but I was thinking about how this book would end and boy was I wrong. The art really suits this style of book as it helps set the time period of the early 1900′s. There is something behind every corner and when you think you can take a breath another page which frightens you. This series is well worth its money, the hard cover which image should be releasing soon will be a very good collectable for everyone to read. One thing I know for certain is that this is something that should be adapted to a movie if possible!

 

I recently was lucky to speak to both writers and Scott Tuft said that “a sequal is possible” however with both writers busy working on other projects that is a novel worth waiting for.

Final Grade: A+

Don’t you hate it when reality kicks in….

Yes that is right everyone I am back in Australia and back at work. I have to admit it has taken a little bit of time to get back into the swing of things here in terms of work and that. I had a blast for those 2 weeks while I was in the states, when I came back I had lost 3kgs! though my mate found him for me in his waist line :P

 

I pretty much spent the last week of my trip at theme parks and I got to hang out with some friends who I work with who came all the way down from San Jose just to see me. I learn’t a lot from this trip and I got gained a lot of cool ideas for future stories for Vengador and a few other stories that appeared in my head. So I am really looking forward to sitting down and writing them.

 

I have my CCNP Route exam in 2 weeks so I am cramming like no tomorrow to prepare for it. I just want to thank all the new readers that have jumped on board and who have been enjoying my stories, this is a character close to my heart and I hope to share his message across the world.

Wondercon Wrap-up

Well I survived my first con in the USA! Man was it insane, I have to admit it was a big difference for me coming from Australia to LA. I heard there was around 70,000 people over the 3 days which is just insane to me.

 

Overall it was an amazing weekend as I got to meet a lot of new people and professionals already in the industry who inspire me. I got to meet Scott Snyder who is really a nice guy who loves his fans. I had the chance to see his panel and I thought it was great, I took away a lot of things from it such as his whole writing process. Another person I met was Kyle Higgins whose Nightwing run at the moment is kicking ass!

 

My goal was to get a few more fans for Vengador and hopefully I achieved that. Walking up and down the whole convention center handing out Vengador fliers and introducing myself to many people was great. I was surprised with the amount of people who were asking about the character and the story. I learn’t a lot from this trip and will definitely do it again next year I feel. I have a few things to work on in terms of my writing but hey I am young and I know there are a lot of things to work on but this weekend has showed me those key areas which people are looking for in a young writer.

 

The next thing on my agenda is to do a few reviews for some comics that I bought over the weekend and to work with other web and comic guys on a few projects and see if anything comes out it. But first I will be reviewing Scott Snyder and Scott Tuft’s book from Image “Severed” which I hope to have up at the end of next week if time persists.

 

I leave to go back to Sydney next week before returning to the real world of work lol As a final note I just want people to know I had a blast.

So Close now I can taste it!

Well all in 4 days I leave for my trip to the US and man all I can say is that it can’t come soon enough!

I really need this 2 week holiday, however this trip is more about meeting people at Wondercon…trying to connect with fans and hopefully gain some more interest in Vengador and my other projects. Every night this last week I have been working on my portfolio, my bags are packed which is a good a thing.

I spend the first week just looking around LA pretty much but I go to San Jose to check out the headquarters of work and to see some friends. The second week is pretty much just theme parks YEAH BABY!!!

Any who I need to head off people.

Outlaw Zombie #1 Review

Being an Australian I am not too aware of the collage system in the states so it is good to be able to open up this book and let my imagine run wild!
I’m also not a big fan of the zombie genre unless its more of a comedy. Zombie Outlaw is just that, a fun adventure consisting of hot girls, jocks and ZOMBIES!
this book is definetly a fun read and writer Brian Apodaca and artist Benny Jordan bring fun, excitement all into a big ball. Its nice to get away from some of the serious
books from the main stream publishers and get into the indy stuff which takes things and flips them on their head.

The main character of this story is Matt who has a huge crush on the hottest girl in the school K.T. Delaney. However Matt needs some pointers about getting the girls
from his mate Will, who agrees to help Matt. Will is interested in reading about the schools history and decided to take Matt to the school library. The two find themselves
discovering a secret door leading to a dark room underneith the library which has been abandoned for what appears to be hundreds of years.

It is here that they discover what appears to be a mummy wearing a cowboy hat. However the two then discover that the mummy is in fact a zombie! All I can say about the ending
is that it leaves you on a cliff hanger wanting more out of the second issue to discover what is going on and how can Matt and Will stop this zombie before he eats everyone.

I really love the art style in this book as well as the panel layouts which are unique and don’t see any similiar sytles in any other comic books these days.
The story writting is great and you can tell that this is a book with a lot of histroy and mystery. I can’t wait to see what Brian and Benny come up with in the next issue.

Batman #6 Review

There is no doubt that this book is one of the best Batman titles to date. Scott Snyder knows how to right horror and I think this is some of his best work. After the craziness of issue 5 this issue had it’s work cut out. The cover was enough for you to realise that this was going to be an insane issue.

The issue picks up straight away from the previous issue as we saw the dark knight with a blade through his torso with the court of owls looking on. We finally get to see what the court looks like in this issue as Snyder pulls the curtin off to reveal them. Thus far we have only been able to picture in our heads what the court is up to and what their motives are but we get a good look into their society as they watch Batman get tortured to death by the talon.

Something that we don’t we don’t see often is Batman getting to his breaking point and it is not a pretty sight that is for sure as we are shown are beautiful splash page of Batman bursting out from a pile of members of the Court of Owls.

With the narrative taking a back seat, Greg Capullo is left to knock it out of the park to portray the back-and-forth physicality between Batman and the Talon. The team on this book is one of the best teams going around at DC at the moment and even though not much happens in this issue in terms of plot, it is a “fight” issue but one hell of an issue if you ask me.

Final Grade: A
